The larimar is a special variety of the mineral pectolite and is also known as the Atlantis stone. The stone bears its interesting name Larimar due to its two discoverers, Norman Rilling of the US Peace Corps and the Dominican Miguel Méndez, who combined the name of his daughter Larissa and the Spanish name for sea "Mar" because of the unique color of the stone.
